Greg Hall of Kohu Road Ltd calls himself the Ice Cream Maker. Kohu Road was recently announced a finalist in two categories - Corban Revell Best Small Business Award and Airpro Marketing Excellence Award at the 2010 Westpac Waitakere Business Awards.
Business to Business - What inspired you to start up your business?
Greg Hall - I did it for my wife and kids, for their future. I really love food, especially chocolate and ice cream and wanted to create something (from absolutely nothing) so it was perfect.
BtoB - Who has influenced you the most professionally?
GH - My dad and uncle, they worked at opposite ends of the business spectrum but both did so with honesty, integrity and generosity.
BtoB - How would you describe yourself as a businessman?
GH - I’m just a guy who gets to do what I love, have fun and work with brilliant people.
BtoB - What do you consider your greatest achievement?
GH - Making people happy through food; happiness is an incredibly scarce commodity.
BtoB - With hindsight, what is the one thing you would do differently?
GH - It’s too early to say… there’s lots of little things but, so far so good...
BtoB - Who do you find inspirational and why?
GH - Our customers - they are so wonderful, helpful and encouraging. And when they eat our ice cream, the pure joy on their faces… fantastic!
BtoB - What is the most inspirational book you have read recently?
GH - Books, arrgh. Business is about people, look to people for inspiration.
BtoB - What is your favourite website and why?
GH - StumbleUpon, it’s random for the Internet. Plug in your preferences and have fun, when was the last time the net was fun?
BtoB - What is the first thing you would do if you became Prime Minister?
GH - Crack open the bubbly then change the left turn rule, create consequences to crime, actually make us clean and green, unify NZ into a nation of one people and then… more bubbly.
BtoB - What is the best thing about being in business in Waitakere City?
GH - The help and support from other businesses, the bush; my commute is 5 minutes and I don’t have to drive in or out of the city during rush hour.
