Waitakere Enterprise is an economic development accelerant in a city that has demonstrated leadership in sustainable city development.
An independent trust, Waitakere Enterprise provides services including business information, training and mentoring, new business start-up training and coaching, an annual business awards, central government business funding advice, business events, business location information and assistance, key business client management and young enterprise and skills and education initiatives including foundation ESOL and youth training.
Our Goal
To reduce the percentage of Waitakere's workforce leaving the city each day to work from 60% to 40%.
Achieving this goal will annually save over 100 000 journey to work kms, $70 million in direct transport costs, 1.3 million hours better spent in the economy, family and community, 10 million litres of petrol, 7000 tonnes of carbon
Waitakere has 14% of the Auckland Region's population and produces just 8% of its GDP. While a crude comparison, this observation does give insight into why 58% of Waitakere's workforce leaves the city each day to work. This results in significant economic, environmental and social impacts.
Our goal recognises the clear co-dependence between the economy of a city, the environment and its people. While Waitakere Enterprise is primarily focussed on the economic development, cognisance of the balance between these key dimensions is recognised as key to the achievement of sustainable economic growth.
Our purpose
Waitakere Enterprise has two broad areas of activity;
- Economic growth and business services under the brand Waitakere Enterprise
- Foundation education under the sub-brand TrainSmart
Our participation in such a broad range of activity is underpinned by our commitment to sustainable economic development.
While the economic growth and business services are focussed on sustainable growth, this sustainable growth will not occur without the ability of all Waitakere residents to participate in it.
