The Toyota Production System of productivity improvement has been around for more than 50 years. The system focuses on removing waste from within business processes. This is where the hidden costs to productivity lie and where the biggest gains can be made in a business.

Unfortunately, most businesses look to adding value to products and services or delivering more within a shorter time frame to boost their bottom lines.

Based on the Toyota Production System, the Competitive Edge Productivity Programme helps organisations to introduce high performance tools and practices into their businesses.

The Programme puts integration of the Toyota system within realistic reach of New Zealand businesses for the first time.

How it works

The programme works with staff at all levels of the organisation, with a focus on senior management.

To establish the environment for introducing and sustaining improved productivity, the programme combines key concepts, tools and processes from the Toyota Production System with effective senior management and leadership training.

Training and guidance is provided at the shop floor to help senior managers provide those carrying out the work with the tools and processes of the Toyota Production System. Senior management is then able to spend more working at a strategic level.

The programme results in a change to workplace culture with high levels of interaction and

problem—solving at all levels. It can be linked to qualifications on the NZQA Qualifications Framework which helps to motivate employees and provides the system for ensuring learning is demonstrated to the standard required.
