
Congratulations to the winners in 2010 Westpac Waitakere Business Awards! Friday night, 8 October was a night to remember with over 720 guests and plenty to celebrate.
Tasti Products was the big winner on the night, scooping three categories and the Westpac Supreme Award.

Glidepath Limited
Glidepath won the Supreme B
usiness Award in both 2001 and 2005, and since then the business has experienced rapid growth and continues to have a major beneficial impact on the local economy. A manufacturing plant was established in Dallas Texas, and offices have been established in Adelaide, Sydney, Toronto, Santiago, Lima, Durban and Mumbai.

Aqualine Products 
The judges thought Aqualine Products demonstrated clear skills in the marketing field, which have managed to make plumbing supplies seem exciting.
For 20 years, Aqualine has been supplying innovative products to the New Zealand plumbing industry.
Aqualine has built strong relationships through involvement with industry associations as well as supporting trade, social, charity and sports activities with customers.
A wide range of good, usable and innovative products has been developed using a deep knowledge of customer requirements - both at a wholesale level and in terms of end users.![]()

The Trusts Training and Development Award
McDonalds New Lynn and Kelston
The judges were impressed that owner, Dinesh Mani, was McDonald’s NZ operator of the year and were also pleased to see the appointment of a new HR and training role, demonstrating commitment to training and development within the organisation.
McDonalds New Lynn and Kelston has a systematic and structured training programme, and carries out significant staff development over and above the usual McDonalds’ franchise system expectations.
This commitment benefits the individual staff members, the McDonalds business, and the wider community.

West Wave Aquatic
The judges commented that West Wave Aquatic is an outstanding business with impressive growth in both attendance and membership. The centre boasts great customer survey ratings. These have been used effectively as a basis for understanding customers and how best to serve their differing needs.
West Wave Aquatic was a clear winner with superior standards and above average performance on a sustained basis.

Alloy Yachts Employer of Choice Award
Tasti Products
Tasti is a large food manufacturing business employing both unskilled and skilled staff. The business shows its commitment to staff through education, recognition, internal promotion and team events.
Their products have been in generations of New Zealand pantry’s since 1932, but its their staffing initiatives that have won them this award.
The many commendable initiatives include a literacy programme and a wellness programme. Tasti is also a good community citizen involving its staff in a major native forest and Kiwi conservation project.

Unitec Innovation in Business Award
Snitch Incorporated 
Snitch is a company that understands technology and has a clear view on the future of its market. This innovative and determined technology company has carved out a strong slice of a competitive market. It has higher growth targets and the means to stay in front.
Snitch has been involved with a growing list of companies and individuals including The Radio Network - creating the Time Saver Traffic website - and Vodafone. The aim of Snitch Incorporated was to bring a low cost, high quality GPS tracking device to the market. This aim has been realised through rigorous development, testing, and sensible downcosting of the products.

The Trusts Best Hospitality Business Award
Carlton Party Hire Henderson
Carlton Party Hire has established a strong brand in the hospitality hire industry. The business is firmly positioned in West Auckland, has a good customer focus and reinvests in modern equipment to remain competitive.
The judges believe this is a very capable company with the capacity to cope with a wide range of hospitality scenarios. Carlton Party Hire is very well run and responsive to customer requirements.

Ritchies Holdings Young Business Person of the Year Award
Amanda Wheeler - Foundation for Youth Development Waitakere
Amanda Wheeler and the Foundation for Youth Development are incredibly good examples of making a difference in the community.
The Foundation for Youth Development is a leading organisation managing proven youth development programmes aimed to inspire school aged children to reach their full potential.
Amanda has a huge passion for her role in the organisation and has made some significant strategic changes to the programmes. Huge benefits have already been seen.
Amanda is a competent organiser with strong fundraising skills and a good understanding that this is about getting more kids on the programmes. She has a solid corporate background, which she is able to apply to values-based, ethical organisations like this one.

Babich Wines Export Business Award
Tasti Products
The judges were very impressed with Tasti’s export story, which started seriously in 2000 and has now reached 52% of total turnover. Their focus has been on cracking the tough Australian supermarket chains.
All products are manufactured at Tasti’s factory at Te Atatu peninsula, and 20 containers of product are exported to shelves in 4000 supermarkets throughout Australia each week. New export targets have now also been set for Asia and the Middle East.

Unitec Commuity and Volunteer Sector Best Practice Award
Piha Surf Life Saving Club
Piha Surf Life Saving Club is a great example of a club that delivers to the Community based on the good work of Volunteers, with a well-developed governance structure in place and strong business processes.
Situated on the stunning, yet demanding West Coast, the club has worked hard on diversifying its funding model to achieve long-term financial sustainability. It also has possibly the highest profile of any surf life saving club in New Zealand and one of the busiest patrols.

With a strong focus on monitoring and management of standards, great staff that are encouraged by training and excellent use of technology, it was very clear that at Kelvin Armstrong Auto Repairs, the customer always comes first.![]()

Hi-Tech was established in 1992 as a specialist importer of flexible packaging solutions to the New Zealand market with a focus on global products for local solutions.Hi-Tech has developed an excellent account management and customer service model.
There are robust recruitment and people performance management processes in place. It’s hard to fault this organisation, which has had solid growth, a realistic appreciation of its markets, and is poised to enter new markets.

The judges were also impressed by Tasti’s social conscience, which was demonstrated through a range of initiatives and acknowledgement of the need for work-life balance.
