A significant quiet achiever, Glidepath has run its international baggage handling business from Waitakere for more than 30 years.

Since 1972, Glidepath has completed more than 448 projects in 39 countries around the world and is now a leader in the field of airport baggage handling systems. Glidepath's major export destinations are Australia, Canada and the United States. The company has a manufacturing facility in Dallas, Texas and subsidiaries in Sydney, Shanghai, Toronto, the United Arab Emirates and Santiago. Its software designers, manufacturing and electrical engineers and project managers are located in Glen Eden."Basically, the brains of Glidepath's operations are here in Waitakere - our Waitakere arm is our support organisation if you like and it provides the manufacturing know how," says foudner and Chairman Mr Ken Stevens.

"We've been our west for a long, long time," he says, "and a lot of our staff live out west. In so far as Glidepath is concerned, Waitakere is business friendly and I certainly think Waitakere's economic development unit, Enterprise Waitakere, works very hard and does a very good job."

Such is Glidepath's export success Stevens is the government's Business Champion for Export Year '07, an initiative designed to improve New Zealand's long-term export success. Stevens sums up the project bluntly; "Export Year 07 is pivotal to our ongoing success as a country. If it doesn't succeed we will just become another state of Australia."Glidepath has been extensively recognised in Waitakere. Mr Stevens is a member of Waitakere's Business Hall of Fame together with thelikes of Peter Babich, Brian Corban, Graeme Douglas and Karen Walker. The company has also won a host regional business awards.
